  1. Automatic Installation Instructions

  3. MacLinkPlus™ is designed to be automatically installed by the MacLinkPlus Installer.  To install the software, insert the disk labeled “Mac Disk 1” into your floppy disk drive and double-click on the ‘MacLinkPlus Installer’.  The Installer will guide you through the installation process.

  5. Manual Installation Instructions:

  7. Manual installation should only be attempted if there has been a failure in Automatic Installation AND you have called DataViz Technical Support ( 203 268-0030 ) to assist in handling the problem.

  9. A manually installed version of MacLinkPlus is a temporary version which will expire.  After a manual installation, please contact DataViz for a full copy.

  11. EXTRACTION
  12. Double-click the file ‘MacLinkXXX.sea’ on “Mac Disk 1” and set the destination folder to your hard disk.  The files will be extracted and produce a folder named MacLinkXXX.  Rename this folder “MacLinkPlus 8.0”.

  14. Double-click the file ‘DV2.sea’ on “Mac Disk 2” and set the destination folder to your hard disk.  The files will be extracted and produce the folder “DV2”.

  17. MACLINKPLUS TRANSLATOR LIBRARY
  18. Open the folder “DataViz” in the folder “MacLinkPlus 8.0”.

  20. Open the folder “Translators” in the folder “DV2” and drag its contents into the folder “DataViz”.

  22. Drag the folder “DataViz” into your System Folder.  Move the whole folder, not just its contents!  Once this is done, MacLinkPlus and other applications which use these translators will be able to run properly.

  24. After the MacLinkPlus Translator Library has been installed, the steps below are independent.

  26. DATAVIZ FILEVIEW™
  27. Drag ‘DataViz FileView™’ from the folder “DV2” to the folder “MacLinkPlus 8.0”.

  29. MACLINKPLUS SETUP - SYSTEM 7 USERS ONLY!!
  30. Drag ‘MacLinkPlus Setup’ from the folder “MacLinkXXX” to your System Folder.  It will be put it in the “Control Panels” folder.

  32. MACINTOSH PC EXCHANGE™ - SYSTEM 7 USERS ONLY!!
  33. Some versions of MacLinkPlus include Macintosh PC Exchange™, a DOS disk mounting utility provided by Apple.  You must be a System 7 user to use PC Exchange.  To install PC Exchange…

  35. Drag ‘Macintosh PC Exchange™’ from the folder “MacLinkPlus 8.0” to your System Folder.  It will be put it in the “Control Panels” folder.

  37. You must restart your Macintosh to activate Macintosh PC Exchange™.

  39. **Warning:  If you have another product which accesses DOS disks in your FDHD drive, such as "AccessPC" or "DOS Mounter", it must be removed when you install Macintosh PC Exchange™.

  41. MACINTOSH® EASY OPEN - SYSTEM 7 USERS ONLY!!
  42. Open the folder “Easy Open Extensions” from the folder “MacLinkXXX” and drag the file ‘Document Converter’ to the folder “MacLinkPlus 8.0”.  Drag the remaining contents of “Easy Open Extensions” to the System Folder.  The System will place the files as follows:

  44. ‘Macintosh Easy Open’            in the folder “Control Panels”
  45. ‘MacLinkPlus for Easy Open’   in the folder “Extensions”

  47. To activate Macintosh® Easy Open you must restart your Macintosh and rebuild your Desktop.

  49. XTND BRIDGE
  50. The ‘MacLinkPlus Bridge’ for XTND compatible applications is in the folder “MacLinkXXX”.

  52. Locate the folder “Claris Translators” in the folder “Claris” in your “System Folder”.  If you do not have the Claris folders they must be created and spelled correctly.

  54. Drag ‘MacLinkPlus Bridge’ to the folder “Claris Translators” in the folder “Claris” in your “System Folder”.

  56. MICROSOFT WORD EXTERNAL CONVERTERS
  57. Microsoft Word External Converters can not be installed manually.

  59. MICROSOFT WORKS CONVERTERS
  60. Microsoft Works Converters can not be installed manually.

  62. COMPLETION
  63. When you are done, delete the folder “DV2”;  also delete the folders “For MS Word”, “For MS Works(3)”, and “For MS Works(4)” from “MacLinkPlus 8.0”.
